West Houston has a new library and community center and it is located in the heart of the Energy Corridor on Eldridge right next to Terry Hershey Park. Now you can take a nice walk through the park and then go cool off and find a good book to read when your finished.
The following is a description quote from the Houston Public library website:
This new facility is the first combined library and community center to be built in Houston. It offers the city the first three-story neighborhood library and the first library with a drive up window. The Kendall Neighborhood Library and Community Center is located at 609 N. Eldridge.
The new Belle Sherman Kendall Neighborhood Library and Community Center nearly doubles the size of the library from the previous location of 9,600 square feet to 19,000 square feet. The new library has a drive-up window, a first for the Houston Public Library. The first floor of the facility is where the HPARD Community Center is located, sharing space with a large meeting room and the Library’s check-in and check-out services, including the drive-up window. The second floor houses the adult collection and reading areas and a small conference room. The third floor offers the children’s and teen’s collections and reading areas, and a small meeting room.
The Library incorporates the latest technology, both for public use and operational efficiency. Customers will have access to 29 computer stations, 12 laptops for on-site checkout, reference services, self-check stations, and a large on-site collection of books, periodicals, music, movies, and reference materials. The Library hours are: Mondays 10am-8pm, Tuesdays 10a-6pm, Wednesdays 10am-6pm, Thursdays 12pm-8pm, Fridays 12pm – 6pm, Saturdays 10a-6pm, and closed on Sundays.
